While the weather in Florida is well known for sunshine and clear skies, it is also well known by locals that rain can and does drop from the sky in unpredicted places. What looks like a clear sky can within a few minutes, form a cloud and dump rain on your outdoor activity. If you’re planning an outdoor celebration, be ready for a random shower, especially if the forecast includes even a 5% chance of rain. It’s beautiful to have an outdoor celebration until the rain falls and everyone has to huddle under an umbrella of small tent. Electronics installed outdoors need to be weather resistant or waterproof in order to avoid damage.

We set up one of our dance floors under a tent on the beach one time… and around 15 minutes later, we looked up and saw a massive storm cloud coming right at us. The 60 mile per hour winds, hard rain and lighting seemingly pursued a mission of destruction and succeeded in destroying the tent over our floor, allowing it to be completely soaked and covered in sand. The whole next day was spent dealing with the cleanup and testing of every electrical component.

A school hired us to provide our dance floor and sound system for a homecoming dance they had planned outdoors on their campus. When we arrived, we found that the tent under which we were to install the equipment was already collapsed from wind. We couldn’t even stand under the tent to put our equipment where they wanted it.

A family hired us to provide DJ entertainment and our dance floor for a graduation party. They wanted it installed on their uncovered driveway. The forecast included a low chance of rain and radar initially didn’t show anything headed toward the site. Thirty minutes into the installation however, that changed and rain fell for the next three and a half hours… sometimes the rain was heavy.

Outdoor events in Florida… Require a backup plan in case of bad weather. Without a plan, not only will that dream event be wet but there may be additional damage that has to be dealt with. Event insurance isn’t expensive and should be considered in addition to having a plan for success, in the event of bad weather. If you make a plan and need to execute it, it will seem easy. Without a plan however, the unpredictable weather may foil those plans altogether.
