As I reflect on the songs chosen by couples for their 1st dance as a married couple, I am reminded as to how it seems that for my clients, they have been choosing something a little less common and perhaps more unique, in a way. They seem to appreciate the most commonly selected songs but today, couples are putting more thought into which song will be “their” song. To my surprise, some have selected music with lyrics that are less mainstream and more eclectic, less popular and more obscure…. Like from one of their favorite artists. I’ve even had couples have a “friend” play the tune using their acoustic guitar or sing with the accompaniment of a few string instruments. It’s been delightfully refreshing, honestly, to witness more and more couples selecting a song that goes well with a custom choreographed “ballroom” infused dance. This sometimes has meant a commonly known song but by a different artist, possibly with a different beat or tempo. Here are some of most common selections for a couple’s first dance:
Perfect by Ed Sheeran
From the Ground Up by Dan + Shay
At Last by Etta James
Beautiful Crazy by Luke Combs
Tennessee Whiskey by Chris Stapleton
Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran
Speechless by Dan + Shay
You Make It Easy by Jason Aldean
Better Together by Luke Combs
Nobody But You by Blake Sheldon and Gwen Stefani
